Golden Globes 2016 |My Thoughts & the Best Dressed

It’s that wonderful time of year once again (totally don’t mean Christmas) – it’s the start of Awards Season. Quite possibly my favourite season, the world of cinema and television collide in some of the biggest awards shows leading up to the Oscars. We start with the prestigious Golden Globe Awards which tend to set the bar for winners and gives somewhat of an indication as to who will ultimately walk away with the grandest prize of all, an Oscar.

Every year, I love to watch the stars grace the red carpet in their finery and feature my favourite looks from the night. This is primarily a beauty blog after all but expect some feedback on how I feel about the winners!

Let’s start with the Best Dressed shall we?

Amy Adams in Atelier Versace

For me, Amy Adams always takes risks when it comes to colour and this year was no different. On paper, this orange toned dress shouldn’t work with her beautiful auburn locks but it looks incredible. The fit and cut of the dress, especially around her shoulders, is perfection. The sequin detail on the bottom half of the dress keeps this exciting and eye catching. I don’t need to mention her hair as it was that of a Disney princess, which she is after all.

Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton

The Swedish actress is fast becoming a Hollywood IT girl and despite her boyfriend being Michael Fassbender (so incredibly envious), she’s also becoming one of my favourite actresses. She has such a willowy frame that this somewhat Victorian feel dress was perfect for her body.  don’t think anyone else would have been able to pull it off with such grace and sophistication. Her make up was done by the Queen, Charlotte Tilbury and looked flawless. The up-do worked with the dress perfectly too.

Brie Larson in Calvin Klein

Oh hey there Miss Larson all Golden Globe-eque with a gong to match! Brie looks beautiful in this dazzling CK number, the cut out’s a definitely more GG appropriate than the Oscars and I certainly spy some impressive abs peeking through. Her hair was simple yet sleek and let the dress (and her award) do the talking.

Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Zuhair Murad

Fresh off her viral Lip Sync Battle with husband Channing, Jenna looked breathtaking in this navy, embroider gown that must have weighed a tonne. I love the shape of the dress more than anything and whilst navy is darker than most of the colours on the red carpet, it certainly was just as eye catching. The messy, un-done vibe to her up do just added to the effortless glamour.

Kate Winslet in Ralph Lauren

Ah Kate, my girl crush on her continues to grow! I love this royal blue Ralph Lauren number, it gives me major body envy as it fits her like a glove. It’s very much like other dresses she’s worn in the past but if it ain’t broke…

Lady Gaga in Atelier Versace

What I love most about this is the fact that LG dressed so ‘normal’ for her, but despite that the waist section was very ‘Gaga’ as it snatched her waist in and gave the illusion of a vintage corset style tiny waist/large hips. It kept, what could be a boring black dress, fun and exciting. Her make up and hair was perfect and those cheekbones deserved a Golden Globe award too!

Lily James in Marchesa

Lily is easily one of my favourites on the red carpet – who remembers her Cinderella promotional tour dresses? Uh-maze. This grecian style Marchesa dress was stunning, I loved the caped back and cut-out pieces to the front. It really made the dress stand out for me! Her hair and make up was gorgeous too – who doesn’t love a brown smoky eye?

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Atelier Versace

Atelier Versace is featuring lots in this post, huh? Rosie was quite possibly my absolute favourite of the evening, she never ever gets it wrong and last night was something else. She looked out of this world! Her hair and make up was my favourite of the night too – her lob is giving me life.

Rachel McAdams in Lanvin

Rachel never ages, seriously she’s just as youthful as she was when she got her break in Mean Girls in 2004. I don’t normally love printed dresses this dark but she looked incredible in this Lanvin dress. I loved the neckline and how gorgeous her top-line looked. Her hair and make up was beautiful too and especially because I felt there was a lack of bright lipstick last night.

Sophia Bush in Narciso Rodriguez

Brooke Davis in the house! Totally wished she was wearing ‘Clothes Over Bros‘ – that would’ve been hilariously fabulous. I adore this dress, mainly because it was a stunning fit but I think the jewels, hair and make up really made it for me. I don’t think I’ve seen SB look this incredible and she’s SB so she is incredible!

Taraj P. Henson in Stella McCartney

Did anyone else see Cookie Lyon working that red carpet like Naomi Campbell? I love her fierce, sassy nature and I was so pleased she won. This dress looked incredible on Taraj as she has the most amazing figure and I loved the cape too. Her hair and make up was like she’d just rolled out of bed but in the best way.

Thoughts on the Winners

I wasn’t too shocked with any of the winners as this year, more than ever (this is totally said every year) was such a tight race with lots of incredibly deserving winners. I was particularly happy for Brie Larson as she was outstanding in ‘Room‘ and was more than worthy of taking such a prestigious prize. Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio have both won Golden Globes before so that was nice to see them recognised once again. I was a little sad that Michael Fassbender was pipped to the post but if any year is Leo’s to win, it’s this. I’m just happy Michael is getting the praise he so rightly deserves.

TV wise, a lot of shows/actors won that I’ve not had to chance to watch such as Mr Robot but that being said, I was thrilled for Taraj P. Henson to win in such a talented category. I wouldn’t have minded Viola Davis winning but she won the Emmy so it kind of evened it out for me as I find it hard to chose between the two of them. Can we just have a ‘hell yeah!’ for Lady Gaga who I have always loved, winning for acting and not an Original Song like other singers before her.

This sets up an interesting run in to the Oscars for sure as despite the winners last night, it really is becoming a situation where anyone could win and is also extremely deserving of a win due to the tremendous performances this year.

Roll on the SAG awards!

Who did you think was the best dressed?

Love, Kate xo
