Last year, Rimmel launched their Apocalips Lip Lacquers and there was some serious hype around them to say the least. I picked up the majority of the shades and really enjoyed using them…for a while anyway. I think they ended up being a bit of a fad and I moved on swiftly to lip crayons and so forth.
Pretty typical in the world of blogging – one day there’s an amazing, life changing product and the next, you’ve forgotten what it was and moved onto the next.
However, when I was perusing the Rimmel counter last week, I noticed that they’d added a matte version to the line. Of course, this intrigued me and I had to give them a go.

First up is the most autumnal shade of the line, Meteoric Matte – a deep berry that really works well with my ol’ Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Palette. It’s the perfect shade for this time of year and it’s very wearable too. It wears down to a stain which I like because it really keeps the tone on the lips.
Onto the orange side of things and Orange-ology which is probably the most vibrant of the 5 shades available. Since purchasing my beloved NARS Satin Lip Pencil, I’ve found myself really drawn to orange shades. This is a lil’ on the red side but it’s still a very beautiful shade. Again, this wears down to a stain but not as nicely as the berry version.
What’s the formula like I hear you ask?
I’m a bit unsure how I feel about these, they feel rather oily on the lips and they have a heck of a lot of slip for a matte finish. I don’t fully feel they’re as matte as they could be – they seem to have a lil’ bit of a sheen which kinda annoys me. There’s an almost powdery finish on the lips that makes me feel a lil’ thirsty throughout the day.
I think I need to get a little more wear out of these to fully decide but for now I’m a bit indifferent.
Love, Kate xo
