Well that’s the age old question – shall I go matte or glossy on my lips?
I find this is a daily decision at times especially since last year was the start of my love for matte lip shades. As long as I have my trusty Lush Popcorn Lip Scrub I know I’m safe to enter. I was lucky enough to be given a NARS Guy Bourdin Fling Lip Kit for Christmas from my bestie and despite being a mahooosive NARS lover, I’d never tried any lip products. Sadly, as you’ll have guessed, the set is sold out but the shades are available in the permanent line.
The set included 2 full size lipsticks – those will be featured on sugarfixxbeauty a little later on but for now it’s time to focus on the lip pencils – one matte, one gloss. I’ve heard such great things about the NARS Lip Pencils, in particular the Velvet Matte ones – super pigmented and long wearing.
The set includes the Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita which is described as a “dusty rose” shade. Surprisingly almost creamy upon application, the formula is matte but not drying as the pencil is enriched with Vitamin E which makes for an easy wear. I’m not too sure if this is the best shade for me as my pink hair is difficult to match with lip colours but it’s a lovely, soft shade.
Gloss wise the set includes the Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil in Baroque which is described as a “raspberry sorbet” shade and I feel this shade suits me more than Dolce Vita – it’s rich in colour despite being extremely glossy which is nice as I think colour pay-off is more important than the amount of sheen a lip product gives you. It’s slightly iridescent as it has tiny flecks of glitter throughout.
I’m really impressed with these, they’re a lovely formula and I’m a bit of a lip pencil/crayon junkie if you hadn’t already noticed. I’d say the Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil wins on this occasion but simply because the shade is more suited to my ‘hurr.
Have you tried these? If so, what shades do you recommend?
Love, Katie xo
