Foundation Friday | L’Oreal Lumi Magique Cushion

Firstly, so sorry for the lack of posts recently  – life’s been a little manic but I have so many half written posts on the way – promise. It’s the return of my ‘Foundation Friday‘ feature (see my previous posts here and here) and this week is a very special edition. I recently picked up the long awaited L’Oreal Lumi Magique Cushion Foundation (currently £9.99) after spotting it in my local Boots. The foundation has been available in the US for a while now and ‘cushion’ style bases are the new ‘in thing’ in the world of makeup.

So before I get onto the product itself, what in the heckidy heck is a cushion foundation?

Essentially, the foundation is housed in a sponge within a handy compact and usually the formula is pretty thin in consistency. The idea is that the foundation is lightweight in texture and coverage in the way BB and CC creams are  but the cushion (and puff applicator) work cohesively to apply the product flawlessly and with minimal effort. Just tap, tap, tap and you’re pretty much good to go.

I first noticed this trend when Lancôme released their version last year and hoped sister brand L’Oreal would follow suit. I’m a big fan of L’Oreal and in particular their foundations so naturally, I was intrigued and excited.

I picked up the shade ‘Rose Beige‘ which is one of 7 shades and bang smack in the middle of the colour spectrum. Sadly, the shades are all particularly light and there’s really no darker shades for deeper skin tones which I think is an absolute shame. I was quite shocked by this as True Match has a fantastic shade range. I hope they add more shades over time.

The packaging is beautiful and the metallic lilac really stands out, especially in a full display of makeup. I also picked up the L’Oreal Glam Bronze Cushion de Soleil Fresh Glow Bronzer (currently £9.99) which comes in equally beautiful packaging with metallic bronze labelling.

From the first use, I knew I loved this foundation which is funny because I go for a medium to full coverage and this is definitely on the lighter side. Personally, I don’t like the puff/sponge as I am a Beauty Blender girl through and through but it is easy to use and good for on the go touch-ups.

It’s crazy how little product I need to cover my entire face and it builds really nicely and with such ease. I’ve been wearing this almost daily for at least 2 weeks now and it gives me such a beautiful luminosity without being too glowy and its matte in all the right places.

It lasts all day on me with the occasional fading around the nose and slightly on the forehead but it’s no more than any other foundation and nothing a good primer can’t assist with.

The bronzer is equally as nice, though I use a small buffing brush to apply it. I was extremely surprised to find it was a lovely cool toned shade and not at all streaky or orange. If you’re a minimal makeup girl or you love to layer liquid and powder, this is for you.

I do feel like the product is drying out a little, maybe that’s just because it’s housed in a sponge but I read that turning the sponge upside down helps the product go a lot further.

Have you tried a cushion foundation?

Love, Kate xo
