The Kylie Cosmetics Lipgloss

Ah yes, the beauty world has an opinion on the Kylie Cosmetics Lipgloss and whether you love or hate her, this is one make up brand that doesn’t seem to be dying down. I pride myself on writing honest reviews on the products that not only interest me but my readers too.

You may have read my previous post featuring two Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits and in that I broke down the entire situation from ordering to packaging to the product itself. I don’t like to leave any stones unturned especially with such a high profile product release. Being the beauty junkie that I am, I felt compelled to join the masses and get my hands on the new Kylie Cosmetic Lipgloss ($15) to see if they’re just as good as the Lip Kits ($29) or not.

So, where to begin…there are currently 3 gloss shades (Like, Literally & So Cute) which are all the kind of nude/brownish shades you’d expect from Miss Jenner. I went for ‘Literally‘ (a warm toned peachy nude) and ‘So Cute‘ (warm nude beige) as I felt the darkest shade ‘Like’ (a warm mocha brown beige) wouldn’t suit me as those deep, dark browns don’t look great with my skintone.

The packaging is in the same vein as the Lip Kits but in their own compact box complete with the paint drop showing the shade. I personally really like the outer packaging as it’s eye-catching and you can differentiate between the colours easily.

The tubes are the same as the Lip Kit showing continuity between each release. A lot of people have said the packaging feels cheap but I personally like it. The only thing I’ve come to find is that the tube doesn’t have a suction for when the wand comes out of it to ensure you don’t over use the product. It’s not necessary but it would have been a more HQ finish.

Let’s start with the darker of the two shades, ‘Literally‘ which I found surprisingly more wearable than I thought it would be but I rather like the brown tone and it applies the nicest of the two.

The brush however, is completely disappointing. You may have read the countless complaints about this longer and extremely frayed style of brush and the complaints are definitely not unfounded. The brush gets worse with each use and it makes me less likely to reach for it. Thankfully, Kylie took note and has replaced it with a perfectly formed smaller brush and has promised that anyone who ordered would receive their orders again but with the new brush. I actually emailed the customer service and they got back to me pretty quickly confirming this. I think replacing the duff brushes was necessary and I think it restores a lot of lost faith by doing so.

Moving onto the lightest shade, ‘So Cute‘ which applies much easier with the new, smaller brush as it glides the product onto my lips without much effort. Although because it is a lighter shade, I find it to be harder to even out but with both the colours seem to mesh and settle into the lips within the first 10 minutes of wear. This seems to give a better finish on my lips anyway.

I’ve yet to try these over lipsticks but I’m confident they will look good. I do prefer these with a lip liner just because the colour is so opaque and the formula is quite thick. They are a little sticky but it’s a gloss so they can’t all be 100% non-sticky.

The only thing I’d say, and I said this with the Lip Kits is that if you’re ordering from outside the US you will need to pay a large shipping fee and you could end up with customs fees. I ordered ‘22‘ last month and had to pay fees and I had the same issue with these despite not having any on my first order. I think it’s the luck of the draw but it’s definitely something to consider when you’re buying because the price does jump up considerably.

Are these worth the price? If you’re from the US and it costs $15 (approx £10.47), yes. If you’re from anywhere else, no because it ends up being more like £30-40 for an order.

I’ve seen the Metal Mattes and I’m in two minds whether to get those to review or not. The shades are beautiful but I’m unsure if they would suit me but I do think the lightest shade, ‘Heir‘ looks to be the front runner if I do. I would like to see Kylie come out with some different products next – preferably some eyeshadows or anything brow related.

What are your thoughts on Kylie Cosmetics?

Love, Kate xo
