After the Lashes came the Lip Contour Pencils and it wasn’t long before the matte Liquid Lipstick trend met with Huda Beauty to create their fabulous Liquid Mattes (£18). I had decided I wanted to try this newer release but couldn’t decide what shade to go for. They all kinda looked the same online – with my feeling that the shades were more suited to darker skin tones. I wasn’t sure I could pull many of the shades off.
Buying online is always a risky business, especially when it comes to lip colour. Thankfully, I was in London late last month and I ended up looking at the Huda Beauty concession in Harrods. Quite hilariously, there was a queue to look at this tiny little stand with two members of staff. People go nuts for this brand!
I figured I wanted Bombshell as I have the Lip Contour version and really like that. I swatched it and decided it was definitely coming home with me. I’m a bit dubious about warmer, more Terracotta shades with my skintone but I actually really love this shade. I originally wanted the shade Venus but sadly it was sold out so I settled on Muse, which is similar though slightly darker.
Before I go onto the formula and wear time – I have to mention the wonderful boxes that these Liquid Mattes come in. The corresponding lip colour is proudly front and centre in a similar way to the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits. I love packaging where you can physically see the shade as my handbag is usually stacked to the rafters with lip products and I want to easily find the colour I want.
I think Muse is my favourite shade of the two which is ironic considering it wasn’t my first choice. It’s a deep, mauve toned nude which I worried would be too dark for me but it’s surprisingly wearable on me. I think I often believe I’m paler than I actually am! I find it compliments my skin tone and my hair perfectly.
Bombshell is such a flattering warm toned nude as it really warms up the complexion and adds a pretty, almost peachy look to the lips. Though I’m drawn to more pink toned shades, I feel I’ve found the perfect warm toned nude for my skin tone.
Let’s talk formula – these Liquid Mattes are some of the nicest Liquid Lipsticks that I’ve tried. They apply quite runny but don’t smudge as you run the applicator across the lips and a thin layer is all you need for a perfectly opaque finish. I find these really easy to apply as the brush fits around the edges of my lips without much faffing about and I can get good precision. The product dries down within around 40-60 seconds leaving a wonderful matte finish. Where some formulas are extremely drying, the Huda Beauty version do not dry out the lips and remain comfortable throughout the day.
The finish, though Matte doesn’t look powdery or flat which is a bonus in my book. I find these last throughout the day with minimal touch up. If I eat, especially something with a little oil it can wear away the product in the centre of my lips. However, a slick of product later and all is forgiven.
Have you tried the Huda Beauty Liquid Mattes?
Love, Kate xo
