Apologies for the delay on this years BAFTA Best Dressed post! I’ll be honest, I was pretty underwhelmed by Sunday’s red carpet as I felt that apart from the usual suspects, it was a bit of a snooze-fest fashion wise.
The Swedish beauty really stole the show with this edgy leather Louis Vuitton number! I love the stitching and texture throughout paired with her side swept soft waves and darker toned make up. The whole look really suited Alicia and I’d say this dress was a stand out of the awards season for her. I’m excited to see what she wears to the Oscars at the end of the month. Will Michael Fassbender show any PDA with her? Poor lass, that unaired Kiss Cam moment was cringeworthy.
Kate Winslet is forever a goddess. I say this time and time again but she really does know how to dress for her figure. I loved the neckline of the Antonio Berardi number and pop of red which really added to the glam of such a simple, yet elegant dress.
Saoirse is one of my favourite people on the red carpet at the moment – she takes youthful risks that you don’t see from many others and this Burberry column dress with clashing statement necklace really works with her stunning hair and 60s style make up. Those platform heels were stunning!
Seeing Victoria Beckham designs on the red carpet at such high-profile events is truly wonderful to see and this beautiful red dress had the most gorgeous neck and shoulders. Emilia’s shorter hair really let the dress do the talking.
Another red dress and this time a Dior gown on the wonderful Dakota Johnson who I think always looks stunning on the red carpet, especially in red. I think I actually like this look more than her Oscar’s debut last year. Simple, yet sexy and elegant at the same time.
Cate Blanchett is the timeless version of Saorise Ronan when it comes to risks on the red carpet. She wears dresses that would look dreadful on others but seems to really wow with each award show. I love this Alexander McQueen dress on Cate because it shows off her slim waist and has a fun, feathery bottom half that doesn’t overwhelm her frame. Can we also take a moment for those stunning earrings?!
Thoughts on the show
Firstly, whether Stephen Fry called Jenny Beavan a bag lady or not, he’s the best host for the show. His jokes are always well received and it’s clear that the audience have a lot of respect for him. Rebel Wilson made me cringe because I felt the jokes were a little awkward and probably more suited to a Ricky Gervais hosted Golden Globes.
Awards wise, no real shocks which makes me feel the Oscars are going to be pretty straightforward and considering the frontrunners, I’m quite happy with that. I think Kate Winslet winning Best Supporting Actress at the Baftas makes her the front runner despite Alicia Vikander’s SAG win. Best Supporting Actor is kind of up in the air because there have been so many different nominees and winners but I’m going to go with Sylvester Stallone despite his lack of a BAFTA nomination. I don’t see anyone beating Leonardo DiCaprio or Brie Larson in the lead categories at this point.
I sense Spotlight and The Revenant will be vying for Best Picture going forward. We don’t have long to wait thankfully!
Who did you think was the best dressed?
Love, Kate xo
